The Hyde Park neighborhood was originally founded as a majestic suburb of Austin in 1891, complete with a streetcar line connecting the community with downtown Austin. Today, the streetcar line is gone, but the beautiful tree-lined streets and early 20th century architecture remain, creating a special and unique atmosphere for this neighborhood located just north of the University of Texas. The Elisabet Ney Sculpture Museum is in Hyde Park, located in the former studio of Ney, the earliest art studio built in Texas. Convenient shopping is located on the west and east edges of Hyde Park, along with a small local shopping center centrally located in the neighborhood.
